If 2010 was the “Year of the Rookie” in the SWF, Colt LeGalley definitely stood toward the front of the line, although it certainly could have been different.

Colt debuted to little fanfare, fighting fellow rookie Jay Curry and even going so far as to have a short mini-feud with him. However, it wasn’t until Dark Horizon 2010 that LeGalley would truly make a name for himself. At that event, he faced Eric Ridgeway in a brutal Extreme Rules match, meant to determine the new #1 Contender to Mike Kizzar’s Hardcore Championship. The two men battled it out in every way imaginable, and it looked as though the match was going to go down as one of the best of the year until a tragic accident took some of its luster off.

Both LeGalley and Ridgeway climbed to the top of a ladder erected in the ring. Ridgeway went to suplex LeGalley off the top, but misjudged the distance, actually sending LeGalley all the way from the top of the ladder to the concrete floor on the back of his head. LeGalley has said he doesn’t remember much from that, but the match was effectively over, with Ridgeway simply rolling him into the ring and pinning him so the EMT’s could get to the ring.

LeGalley was out for the next 6 months with a herniated disc in his neck, but during that time he made the vow that he would come back and not only continue competing, but win the very title he had nearly killed himself trying to attain. And at Fanning the Flames 2010, he did just that, capturing the Hardcore Championship from the man who put him on the shelf, Eric Ridgeway, in a triple threat match that also included Connor House.

LeGalley went on to defend his title numerous times, but at Mind Games VII, he ran into a road block. The world was abuzz with the hype surrounding the triple threat ladder match, and LeGalley, House and Arcanum definitely delivered, but at the end of the night, it was House who came away with LeGalley’s title.

So what’s next for LeGalley? No one really knows, but the man himself has said that, after coming back from that injury to win, there’s nothing he can’t set his sights on.
